"Midnight Faces" album review Power Play Magazine UK

Hailing from the USA, we find Electric Blues Rock solo artist NICK EVANS MOWERY. He has anexcellent new eleven track album out now called 'Midnight Faces' which clocks in at around thirty- four minutes long and is the artists eighteenth release. Nick began playing guitar when he was twelve years old, and he wasinspired by the likes of Steely Dan, Van Halen, Bob Dylan, and The Ohio State University. Over the years his music has featured in many film and TV shows from, Banshee through to Star Trek and Memphis Beat. Last hear he release a cover of Jimi Hendrix's 'Hey Joe' which reached number seventeen in the iTunes chart.

The album opens up with the radio friendly catchy 'Midnight Faces', this song has a strong Bryan Adams feel, good fun and catchy solid blues rock. The smouldering 'Ole Tin Lizzy' is up-beat soulful catchy blues rocker. Nick's vocals here are soulful with a Jimmy Barnes vibe, bet this song smokes live, Nick's voice is awesome here and the whole vibe is quite electric with a soulful edge. Another cool song is the groove based 'A Guilty Heart That’s Tryin’ to Change' a happy up-tempo tongue n cheek composition. This track reminds me a lot of Blues Traveler and Steve Marriott with fun lyrics.

'Carolina Blue' has a swampier guitar blues groove and is quite funky, a little in the Joe Bonamassa style whilst the awesome'Shirley Jean' is more laid back with a barroom honkytonk feel, the mandolin playing superb and here Nick's vocals come across like Rod Stewart, this is smooth and a potential hit.
Meanwhile, the pulsating 'Brainworld' is massive, the bass work is pumping on this song ad it has strong Northern Soul/blues electric rock feel. I can see the lads n gals dancing to this one at the Northern Soul events, it’s got that vintage organic feel coupled with fabulous playing, and catchy as hell, superb song, and my favourite song on the album.

'Let Him See You Smile' is soulful and silky, a strong ballady style song with hints of Bob Dylan, easy going and Americana singer/songwriter based. The excellent upbeat 'Southern Fried Funk' is a rocking nifty fun guitar fuelled track with a blues based funky groove. 'Woman Child' has a big vintage classic rock vibe, its big and brassy, very raw with a big sound, the synths give the track that vintage seventies raw electric vibe mixed with a little Hendrix vibe, solid stuff. The last song
'Perfect White Square' is a beautiful melodic piano ballad, coupled with a story telling country rock blues vibe. Nick sings this beautifully and the whole flow of this song is graceful, it’s one of those songs that breathes, where you find yourself getting lot in the purity. Absolutely outstanding song. 'Midnight Faces' is a superb album and Nick should send this album into DJ Craig Charles, he is sure to love this album, and would get him some serious exposure on his radio shows. Highly Recommended.
